Mark and Scott,
Would creating an adjusment curve with the transfer function give greater control? Just a thought.
P.S. Scott you may be aware of this, but MIS is making some major changes in their inksets. If you haven't logged on to
www.inksupply.com and read their bulletins about these changes you may want to take some time to review that information. Fore warned is fore armed! These changes may particularly affect 1280 users.

Scott,
If I understand your question correctly, the output slider in the Levels command does this.... or you can do the same with the Curves command by moving the endpoints up & down.

My theroy, being applied to a negative image, is that if I knew the tone of a particular shadow density (say 0.20 above media) and a particular highlight density (say 2.00 above media), resulting in a density range of 1.80, then I could then adjust the tones of the shadows and highlights of my image to fit a process requiring a density range of 1.80. Which returns me to my question of how to set the shadow and highlight tones.
