I have not spent much of my remaining time on earth trying to figure
out what self-masking is. What is it? I wonder if it has to do with
the phenomenon that I've observed with cyanotype: that you have to
expose it longer than you think, because some of it will wash away.
What I do is, I expose it outside in the sun until step 6 on the step
tablet is darker than the steps above and below it. In other words,
steps 1-5 have reversed. Instead of getting darker, they are getting
light again. Some directions for cyanotype tell you to expose until
the shadows start to reverse. Is this what you mean by self masking?
