John,

>>My computer had crashed and I have lost all of the carbon and alt-photo
list threads that that I had saved and filed and organized for the past
two years.
>>When you save a e-mail to a " My Documents folder", does anyone know why I
was not able to retrieve the threads from >>Outlook Express that I
had filed? I was able to salvage many of the images, and "Word" folder
files... Does anyone know if there is something that I can do here or not
do to prevent this from happening again? The computer guy did not know.. He

I had this happen with my first computer and it is quite a set-back....!

I can tell you a little bit - you'll probably need to get some help.
OUTLOOK files are stored in .pst files and stored someplace utterly obscure.
Further, they don't backup (to, say, a CD or zip disk) easily or even
obviously for some strange reason. On my last two computers my "guru"
creates a .pst file and places it in "My Documents" on my desk top. He then
sets up a command line so that all archived/stored data from OUTLOOK is
diverted to that .pst file (rather than the one buried deep inside the
program).

This allows me, in a nearly idiot-proof way, to click and drag that entire
file (which also contains all the WORD documents, picture files, etc etc) to
my CD burner and backup *all* the files on the computer in one smooth, quick
procedure. Having it this easy insures that the back-ups actually *do*
happen from time to time!!

That's as much as I know. That, and having someone nearby who's made it his
or her business to understand these things is pretty much an absolute
necessity - at whatever price they charge.

Good luck!
