Yes, I check for clearing visually in a border area that has been masked
during exposure. There is also a chemical test you can do using potassium
ferricyanide. You can read more about clearing tests on Jeffrey Mathias'

The one other general comment I would make about platinum printing is to
avoid using the "Ferric Oxalate No. 2" method of contrast control which you
will find described in virtually every book written on the subject. You
will get much nicer prints either using sodium dichromate added to
potassium oxalate developer or by using "Na2", the contrast agent that Dick
Sullivan figgered out which is added to the sensitizer. Both of these
methods blow Ferric No. 2 away, especially if you need to make a
significant boost in contrast (ie your neg is really too soft for platinum)
