In traditional printmaking terms, 1/1 would mean that the edition was of
one, but further editions could be made from the same image if they were
different from the original edition in some way. A compromise which is used
by some printmakers who make, say etchings inked up a la poupee which differ
slightly between each print, is to make the edition ""1 of 10" in stead of
1/10 (which seems a bit odd but that's what they do!) or whatever the full
number is. If you should decide to edition the images again, and it was
different in colour or there was an alteration, you could make it a "second
state" edition. I have never made ANY gum prints that are exactly alike even
from the same image with the same emulsion in the same light on the same day
with the same development!!!! So I guess that makes them "monoprints". I use
the same strategy for numbering liquid light prints in different formats
from the öriginal"as the brush marks make each an unique image.
