I have an Imacon Photo that I'm scanning on right now while reading the
list. If you give me details of your system, etc. maybe I can help too.

Catherine,

I've had two Imacon scanners, first a Flextight III and this year I sold
that and bought an 848. They are wonderful scanners, but they can
sometimes be temperamental or worse, you get a lemon.

Did you buy the scanner new recently? What platform are you running it
on? Is it SCSI connection or firewire? Which version of the software
are you running?

One problem is that sometimes the scanner may not run well on your
system for some reason, but will run fine on the dealer's or Imacon's.

I don't know who your dealer is, but he's not helping you a whole lot.
You need to call Imacon USA direct and talk to them-I would contact the
group in Washington State. Insist that they get the scanner running
properly or exchange it for a new one, if you purchased it new. You paid
a lot of money for a quality scanner and you should get your money's
worth. Do not accept them telling you that they will trade you a
reconditioned scanner if you bought it new from them. They will replace
scanners with new ones under those circumstances, but they won't tell
you outright that they will. You may even have to ship it to them and
have them check it out first hand.

Contact me off list if you wish.

Dear List,

I am struggling with what appears to me to be a very temperamental piece
of
machinery - an Imacon Flextight Photo film scanner. It's looking like a
very foolish outlay at present as I have not been able to make it work
consistently or even well after many months of trying. The dealers
insist it
works OK so now I feel really foolish.

I don't like to admit defeat but I might have to. Yesterday, for example
it
built up so much static electricity (yes it was a windy, dry day) that
eventually all I got was lines of grey garbage on screen. It wouldn't
even
turn off. Usually, however, if I manage to get a preview scan, it is
potluck
( :-) no pot involved really) if I get it to make a full scan. And that
is
not sharp. The 2 accompanying instruction books can't decide which way
up
the emulsion should be either.

All my plans for what I was going to do with this thing - i.e. scan my
own
negs to make quality digital prints, and make my own enlarged negs for
gum
etc, have been on hold for nearly a year now. And my hair is going tabby
due
to this frustrating machine.

I would really appreciate some advice, even words of encouragement -
offlist
is fine. I am sure there is some good soul on this list who has one of
these
terrible things who has got its measure.

TIA
Catherine
