I did try applying the curve prior to scanning and found no difference with my
problem.

Are you using the Pro version of the SilverFast Software or the "light version"?

Someone else also recommended makings sure there wasn't a rats nest of cables
around the scanner (which there is) which can cause interference.

I'll let everyone know what I find out.
