Sorry folks, this was meant as a personal email. I need to check my
addresses more carefully!

Mea Culpa Est.

Hi Susan,

Thanks for the address. I will put the photo in the mail once school is
back in session.

Too bad you find travel difficult. It is one of my very fond goals! You
see, my first degree was in both history and anthropology (double major). I
have studied the world extensively but not had the means to actually see it.
Next year I hope to be off and will be starting to save in September '05 if
I can.

Right now I have a couple of goals: I want to climb Kilimanjaro and want to
see Tibet and Nepal. Other than that, I want to visit the usual places:
England, France, Italy, Spain, Russia, Turkey, China, Japan. There are
others of course but that is the main list.

By the way, I agree that we also need to know the history of where we live
and I have done some study of it but the way the discourse was when I was in
school made it Canadian history very boring. Now, the historiography of
Canada is much more modern and interesting.

As for the middle east, there is still hope. There is always hope. But, as
Bob Dylan said, it is a "slow train coming." More and more I feel that
there will be peace in the region but maybe not in my lifetime. That makes
me quite sad as 95 % of my family still live in Israel. They, like the
Arabs, have seen enough troubles.

Riv is having a lot of trouble at work with staff and students which has
caused her to be off on stress leave. I don't mind telling you that as you
work in a hospital and understand stress. There is less money and support
from administration, the government tells you that you are horrible, clients
want and need more all of the time. This, for Riv, was coupled with
workplace harassment by staff (one leading to a failed mediation) and
threats of violence by students. One of her students was investigated by
the RCMP and she was physically hurt by another who claims it was an
accident. Rude things have been written on Riv's car as well. She just
burned out!

Riv is now talking to a psychologist and will return to work, or not, in her
own time.

When you head to the parries in the spring, please do pass by.

Finally, I will try to visit in late January.

Best of the remaining season to you.

Oody

  Hello Oody,
  How are you and Riv?
I am sorry to hear from you that Riv isn't well- this weather can't help
either...
Thank you for the message and the address- I'll send you a card I made.
(Making things are derigeur in the family)-
I probably won't make it to Italy or anywhere else- I can't seem to get
the money and the staem to travel on a plane for those long hours and I
don't like to be taken advanyage off and thought as a rich person that
travels.
I prefer to stay in one place and roam from there... it is nice to hear
you have a degree in European History. It is too bad most people don't any
history of their own country and others... I am still wishing for someone to
stay the fighting in the Mid East but know that is impossible now.
My best to you- it will be better if I visit you next summer/ spring? That
is on my way to the Prairies?
I live on the North End of the Island- it is raelly easy, as my address
says- 2015 North End Road. Salt Sprng Island, BC V8K 1C9.
Have a nice time with the family and I wish Riv well for the coming year!
  Always,
  Susie
