Cheapness, habit, and convenience.
The scanner has always been in the shooting room with the laptop. The
current (old) laptop has scsi, the "about to be bought" ibook doesn't
(it also won't accept PCI or cardbus). I could move the scanner to the
room with my desktop, but there really isn't room at that desk and I
have all my PCI slots full. I could buy a Powerbook and cardbus scsi
instead of the iBook, but that is more $$ than just buying a new (and
nicer) scanner (i900 or 4870).
Life is full of choices. Unfortunately with Xmas coming, my bank
account isn't that full of cash!
