This may have already been mentioned but another option for neg masking
is to use Masking Vinyl. This stuff can be had from printing supply
houses. Here's an example:

http://www.plasticsuppliers.com/p_prepress.htm

On the plus side, it comes in sheets with straight edges so you can cut
pieces and tape to your negs. If you're good with an exacto, you can
cut-out a hole and tape your neg in the center of the vinyl mask.

On the minus side, it's usually not as thin as ruby lith tape. If you put
the masking vinyl UNDER your negative, it can hold the neg away from your
printing paper and defocus the edges of your image. If you put the vinyl
on TOP of your neg, your border might not be razor sharp, especially if
you are using an omni-directional light source like that from fluorescent
banks suspended just a couple inches above the neg/paper.

Plate burners are usually a couple feet or so away from the neg/paper
sandwich and will give better results with the vinyl in either
orientation.

Hope this helps!
