Subject: Re: Hazards of wet plate collodion ?
A few comments . . .
A quick comment about Cyanide. There are few, if any,
uses of Cyanide in general or alternative photography which
can not be accomplished with safer materials. As I pointed
out Ammonium thiosulfate fixer is effective for Silver
Iodide and should work well for wet plate. Thiocarbamide can
be used instead of Cyanide for clearing when using Iodine
bleach for print retouching. There is no practical use for
Monckhoven's intensifier in general photography, it was
intended for use in making half tone plates to sharpen up
the dots. This stuff also uses Mercuric chloride, another
deadly poison.
