I interrupt this program to reveal that most gum printers, or at least
all the ones I've known personally do NOT "clear" a print with sulphuric
acid, sulfuric acid, or anything else...

About twice in my life I've made a gum print that didn't clear simply by a
nice soak in water, and then 10 or 15 minutes in metabisulfite or even
sodium sulfite cleared it just fine. Those couple of times, BTW, were in
hot humid summer weather when I'd also left the coat a bit long before
exposing.

Which is to say, you may not need to "fix" what may not be broke.
