Charles, I'm about to go off and mix some Classic Cyano and coat it onto
Bockingford 150 gsm.....the same paper that was inadvertently coated
with VDB the other day (saved by a short bath in fixer plus a long wash
to remove the residual VDB). The reason I'm saying this is that I've
found that many papers will take cyano, and Bockingford is available in
lots of different sizes and weight bound into pads in cheap outlets
here, while still being a good quality paper. As I'm testing my negs
from my new printer, I figure that starting out with expensive paper is
a waste of time - all I want to know is whether my negs are tuned for
the process, and while this may not give me optimum results, I will know
if I'm in the "ball park".
Otherwise, for other proceses, I've found a wide range of papers useful,
Arches aquarelle, Lanaquarelle, even Hahnemuhle printmaking paper
(except it lifts and gives you vicious print-ruining bubbles on the
surface of liquid silver emulsion prints in the final fix/wash,even with
2 coats of hardened gelatine size), and Fabriano papers.

Thanks to all who replied to my post. Special thanks to Loris who
cautioned me not to abrade the paper. Another suggestion of Arches
Palatine is way out of my price range. And while Judy is undoubtedly
right in saying there are too many variables to test, one does need to
do some and one also needs to know when to stop and start printing.
I'll post (in my site, not here) an image or two when I get through with
that step. Oh--for those who wondered, I'm using cyano I aka classic.
