I myself have been making these Lumen Prints for the past seven or eight
months now, and just wanted to post some of my own findings.
As those of you that are making these prints are finding, different papers
do different things, as well as length of exposure, plant, even where on the
planet you are (angle of the sun effects exposures, even though I may just
be paranoid about that) etc... Lots of different elements have different
effects on the results of these prints. Some are very subtle, while others
are very obvious.
I just fix mine out, without toning. The toners bleach out whatever colors
the moisture of the plant created with the paper. I found that a rapid fixer
can also reduce what effect the plants have on the paper. My best prints, or
the ones I like the most, were all fixed out in a non-rapid fixer. I've used
TF-4 fixer from Photographer's Formulary (which IS a rapid fixer), Ilford
Rapid Fixer (which, as the name denotes, is, surprise, surprise a rapid
fixer) and Kodak's fixer (the mfr number from B & H is Mfr # 1971753). This
is an instance where results are subtle, but as I said before, I like the
prints that have been fixed in a non-rapid fixer. Colors seem a little
snappier.
