I use an Agfa DuoScan (manufactured by Microtek). I can place negatives in
the holders or simply lay them on the LF film tray which has a glass base.
The scans are very sharp with no Newton rings.

Do you do anything to prevent Newton rings between the scanner glass
and the auxiliary glass?
I've been spoiled by the Microtek, which places transparencies below
the scanner optics rather than on the top glass. Film up to 4x5 is held
in very nicely designed glassless holders, while larger film is placed
on a glass support (but not imaged through the glass).
Best regards,
