Carmen,

I have a 3 year old Richeson 9010 3" brush that shows no sign of rust at all.
I use it strictly for Platinum & Palladium. I pre-wet it in distilled
water and shake it til I don't feel any droplets flying out of the brush — then I
coat my paper. After using it, I rinse it very well immediately in tap
water that is about room temperature and shake it out... then I rinse again in
distilled water and shake it out.... finally I hang it upside down to dry with
the bristles all combed nice and straight so any residual moisture is not
draining down into the ferrule.

I do a lot of shaking out—but no magic brush elbow yet....

When I first got the brush, before using it, I masked the bristles and about
1/4 inch of the ferrule and then sprayed the rest of the metal ferrul and
handle —especially where the ferrule meets the handle with a can of plastic
coating that is carried by hardware stores to coat tool handles. That seems to
have helped.

Best Wishes,
