Dear all,
I just found out a great method of converting a neg to greyscale from a
student who found it out from a prof who found it out from....who knows:

Do layer>new adjustment layer>hue/saturation twice. In other words, two of
these adjustment layers.

On the top hue/saturation layer, move the slider to the far left under
saturation to desaturate the image to a greyscale look. This layer is in
"normal" blend mode on the layer drop down menu.

Set the hue/saturation layer closest to the image, the one right on top of
the image, to "color" mode in the dropdown menu on the layers palette that
usually says "normal".

Go into that layer, double click on the palette, and with the hue slider,
slide back and forth. This will change the relationships between the colors
globally in all sorts of possible ways and choices from infrared to deep and
dark.

Those of you diginuts already know this. Those of you like myself and other
budding diginuts, this is really quite cool.

You can also do a greyscale by image>adjust>desaturate (keeps it in RGB) or
image>mode>greyscale (changes it to greyscale) or image>adjust>channel mixer
or under the channels tab on the layers palette select split channels from
the channel drop down menu....

I usually split channels, combine a couple of them, and then put a layer
mask on top and mask out different parts of the image to change the tonal
relationships. This method arrives at what I do much more quickly.

Am I missing something that is even cooler or better? What are your all's
favorite methods?
Chris
