Schuyler, I used some paper-backed mylar sleeves, that come in various
sizes from library conservation sources (for books, no surprise). Not
only a great variety of sizes but, at the time, anyway, cheaper than photo
sources... I bought mine about 15 years ago, so don't remember if they
were from Gaylord, Hollander, Conservation Resources, or University
Products... maybe they all have the equivalent. They all have (or used to
have) catalogs. Now probably websites, but lots of fascinating browsing
whichever (especially for bug collectors).

What I like especially about this type of sleeve is that it opens like a
folder, so no need to drag the film the length of the thing to get it in
and out, which on any size installs scratches along with the fingerprints.
And, being a folder, not sealed on 3 sides, is easily cut to size if you
want to save storage space. Also worst coming to worst, you can stack
several in one, with say, a sheet of mylar between them.

I got those names BTW from Section #1 of "Sources & Services" in
Post-Factory. I figure that remembering they were there was enuf. I didn't
have to remember the rest.

Failing that, probably some roll mylar could be usefully cut and folded to
size. I was in Western Beef on 14th Street today & picked up a roll of
stuff marked *Premium* Saran wrap, which I'm hoping is like the old Saran
wrap for both kitchen and negative uses.

I also have a new catalog from a "Shipping Supply specialist" called
Uline, which, aside from the bubble wrap bags I was looking for has got
pages and pages of different types and thicknesses of polywrap on rolls of
different kinds. That's uline.com. Does anyone know them? (I get lots
of catalogs, but this one is new to me.) You have to buy in industrial
quantity, say 4 large rolls minimum, but if you find a good one I bet
there would be folks happy to share. And sometimes these companies will
send a sample, if you're not clear about the material.

cheers,

Judy
