Let us remember that my original question was:
 
' What advantages does the argyrotype offer over the salt print or Van Dyke
print ?'.
 
I am not to sure about the contention that the three are 'different
creatures' As you pointed out yourself, Loris, the final result looks much the same
which is. to say the least, a significant point, if making a good print is
one's objective. ..
 
.Incidentally. an 'Aunt Sally' is the English equivalent of 'canard' in
French., i.e. an argument that is put forward so that it may be 'shot down' as
with the 'canard' or knocked down as with an Aunt Sally. which was a female
figure erected at fairs, people would pay to throw 'clouts' ( bundles of cloth)
at the 'Aunt Sally't o win prizes if they succeeded in knocking it down.
 
No one was attacking anyone or 'putting up 'Aunt Sallys' to be knocked down
here.
 
English too is a very subtle language where inferences of offensive intent
can often be drawn where none were intended. But then, this is only too true
of the internet as well.
