It is possible to buy gelatin of vegetable origin. It is called "Kosher"
gelatin (normally it is used by religious Jews who will not eat animal
products not ritually treated).

While on the subject, has anyone ever used Agar-Agar, a gelatin made from
seaweed? Never saw it mentioned in the literature.
