Well, I am from Michigan, USA.

I haven't tried buying formaldehyde from a drugstore yet. I will some
day. When I do that, I will make sure that I bring with me my books for
alternative processes so that even if they don't want to sell me, at
least they won't think I am trying to do something illegal. :)
