That said, I often think that juried shows, or even galleries, very specific to alt processes are akin to African American studies, or Women's Studies programs/depts in universities-- maybe they're necessary at this point, but gee-- wouldn't it be wonderful and refreshing if they weren't?
Diana, that's a great point. I'm not yet engaged in any alternative process work myself. (I have strong interest but lack resources and a work space of my own). However, I do silver printing and entered the second annual silver print competition held at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, earning honorable mention for a silver print of mine. It's interesting since I don't know that there used to be silver print competitions. Black and white? Sure. But silver specifically? Perhaps silver printing is joining alternative process, African American studies, and women's studies?
