I agree, although it interesting to become aware of argument styles and
linear, logical thinking skills. (Although I do maintain that non sics
and juxtapositions of opposites (such as the ridiculous and the sublime)
can spice up the conversation and lead in some cases to a new point of
view.) The awareness of sociological-political differences and disputes
is an assumption that underlies the arguments. It is a complex matter.
It appears that in certain forums it is necessary to agree to usage and
termiology before the issues of the agenda can proceed. Obviously the
list has taken a turn in that direction. At this point they can only
agree to disagree and get on with it. This does happen on most if not
all lists. To unsubscribe because of an cyber-dispute is a futile
stance, adolescent in concept reminicent of the "huff" or the "pout" or
the slam of the door. Throwing out the baby with the bathwater, so to
speak.
