Earlier Art Chakalis told the list that he had available some electron
microscope scans of an example of Fesson paper. Thanks to Art and my system
administrator those images are now available via ftp file transfer from my
college server. If you do not have ftp capability email me directly, not to
the list, and I'll see what can be done. If you have Win95 or Win 3.11
(Windows for Workgroups) I know that the ftp is built in. I've used it in
the past directly from DOS so I know the programs exist for that. I don't
know about Win3.1 or 3.0 or any other operating system.

The server is www.uwc.edu so the command after ftp is running is

open www.uwc.edu

The user name for the logon is

photo

The password for access is

brbphoto1

That is a numeral "one" at the end and not an 'el'
There are read only restrictions on this access so you can get the files
but not post anything or act on the files in any way.

The command

dir

will show you the two files whose names end in gif

Then the command

get filename target

will copy the file called filename from my server to your computer to the
directory and filename specified in target. If target just has a directory
specified then the original names will be used. If no directory is
specified then the current directory on your computer will be used. .

And if you know some UNIX command syntax you know there are other ways to do
this.

Please be aware that the file transfer is slow. I have a pretty good system
and it transferred the files at 500 bytes per second using a 36K modem. It
took awhile. This is our college system web server as well so there is
other traffic. Our web address is http://www.uwc.edu if you feel compelled
to look at it. I can't imagine why but there it is.

The server storage is available to the alt-photo list for the temporary
storage of images related to technical discussions on the list. If you need
an image available in order to help clarify a posting then conact me off
list and we will discuss whether or not it can be put on. Nothing can be
posted if there is the slightest question of copyright problems. Basically
if you did not create the file and do not have written permission to post it
from the copyright holder then it will not be posted. Say thank you to the
US Congress and their new copyright law that has no fair use provisions
whatsoever.

If you have no experience with ftp and need more detailed instructions
contact me off list. It is not hard to use just irritating.

I am planning on leaving Art's images up for about a month so get them while
you can.
