POP i believe is the "main" product of Chicago Albumen Works in
Massachussetts--of all places. i believe someone from CAW reads and
responds to the list so perhaps this will be confirmed with more detail and
currency--i got lit. from them a few years back after seeing i think it was
Martha Madigan's work--who makes huge wall size photograms with it if i
remember right--shes at Tyler i believe and some interesting landscape
prints by one of the Connors i think it was--can't remember where i saw
those and which Connor it was right off hand.

what i have (info is a few years old) is that they make both a silver
gelatin POP in both DW --8x10, 11x14, 20x24 --(double weight fiber
paper--glossy) and in RC 8x10 (light weight resin coated--semi-matte). No
developer needed. you get an orange brown print with just fix, rich
chocolate brown w/moderate toning, and purple brown with max tone. i guess
what i saw in both case would be the choc. brown moderately toned
examples--looked good enough ala Immogen Cunningham to me. instructions
give a brief history, directions for processing, including fixer and toner
formulas--a gold toner that is. or you can just buy chem kits from them.
my prices i am sure are not good any more however they seem to be in line
with what you would expect to pay for more "traditional" silver gelatin
papers.

btw: previously she had done the same with cyanotype--she began working
with POP after becoming severly ill--as i recall she was laid up for 6
months in quite a poor state from overexposure to cyanotype
chemicals--afterwards she tried the POP instead so she could keep working
and it worked for her. i remember she tones--gold maybe--she special orders
the paper for prints that are about 4 ft x 6 ft--perhaps more--been awhile
and i am guessing. CAW provides pretty good instructions and has toners and
stuff you might need.

An alternative of course would be the Ziatype process right Carl &
others--doesn't this print out "more strongly" than the more "traditional"
platinum--coat your own paper though.
