I have a wonderful gum print made by Regie Pryce (a South Dakota
photographer). For the longest time I wondered how such deep blacks were
achieved. I have come to believe that it is colored layers of gum
(including white) printed on black paper, exposed through a positive. It's
fairly high contrast, but I assume that it would not have to be printed
that way, depending on the way the resist (positive or negative) is made.
