Eric and Jeffrey,

I'm reading your results with interest and find that for the most part
they resonate with my experience, both in similar-but-different formal
tests and general printing practice. The point that one can be very
accurate working "by feel" is well taken, and should be no surprise to
anyone familiar with master craftsmen working in other, non-photographic
media. The point that it's nearly impossible to *compare* results
obtained this way unless you're standing next to each other is also well
taken. For that kind of comparison humidity chambers and timers would
seem essential.

Meanwhile, the current wave of heat and humidity has totally overpowered
the modest climate control equipment I have in my lab. I'm not going to
waste time and materials either making tests or trying to make serious
prints until the weather breaks.

One observation--I *know* that at "ordinary" Rh levels like 50%-65%,
temperatures above the lower 70's cause dramatic changes in the behavior
of zia-type POP prints, even using well ventilated blower-equipped UV
boxes for exposure. I have to assume that temperatures in the 80's will
also have dramatic impact on what Jeffrey is calling "wet exposure" of
D.O. prints, which is why I'm going to save myself the aggravation and
hold off till the weather breaks. It may be that some printing reactions
respond to what the weather station calls the "heat index", that is, a
balance of temperature and Rh%.
