Dear Vicente...
I guess I didn't make as clear as I should have that the comments I quoted
about the procedure were sent to me by a 3rd party. I did say something to
that effect, but perhaps didn't stress strongly enough.
I myself did not go to the Website, but as my friends, and even perhaps my
very few misguided detractors, will tell you, I don't go to ANY website if
it can possibly be avoided, which is to say unless I need to download
something that will prevent the end of the world -- and then it's a 4-day
migraine. To me, web is like TV except in purgatory, and I refuse to watch
TV at all, even in heaven.
Perhaps I should not have written anything without personal experience of
it, but......
You perhaps were not on the list when a BIG FUSS was made about a thimble
full of aqua regia in a formula in a Post-Factory article on making your
own gold chloride. As noted, I was denounced by "chemists" from here to
Madagascar, I was instructed to send letters to every subscriber to tell
them not to do it, I was threatened with death of a thousand cuts by
website, and all manner of hideosity. Repeated, patient, detailed
explanations of why this was not in fact true or appropriate were
ignored...
The episode left a lasting impression, in fact I still feel it when I
laugh.
So, when the business about ALL THIS NITRIC ACID, MUCH MORE IN FACT, alone
with it in the dark for long enough to dessicate, saturate, elevate, and
levitate, came floating by, AND NEVER A PROTEST, NO DEMANDS FOR RECALL,
NO THUNDERING FULMINATIONS, NOT A SINGLE SOLITARY BLESSED PEEP.... I
couldn't help but be struck by the inequity of it all...
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to make this point. May all your
ferric oxalate be as pure as ... well, much much purer than Rudy
Giuliani's heart.
