DEAR BOB,
Arri makes the industry standard 16mm cameras. The newer ones are
rather expensive but the old Arri 16-S (MOS) with a three lens turret or
Angenieux zoom can be had pretty cheaply. If you need sound the ol' Arri
16 BL is what many universities use as "the first" movie camera. The Arri
16 SR is a really great camera but a bit more expensive.
The Eclair 16 mm cameras are very good as well.
The Arri and Eclair are what I used when studying film at NYU.
All Arri equipment is more expensive but built like tanks...good
survivors of student abuse! That is why the used ones hold their
price...sturdy good machines.
