Before this gets completely off topic, there's an important distinction
here between 'authenticity' as in provenance (is this really a print by
Edward Weston?) and evidentiary credibility (is that Charis on the
dune?). The first is a matter of fact that can only be established by
opinion and will be handled differently in various venues from auction
house to courts. The latter is never decided by the photograph alone
because from the beginning of photography most courts have been clever
enough to know that photographs aren't facts.---Carl
