I've used VDB solution up to 3 years old, when it was indeed "murky," that
is, had lost clarity, turned cloudy, and gotten black flecks throughout.
My experience was that it printed just fine -- and I would suggest NOT
filtering. That is, the black flecks seemed to go back into solution
during coating (I saw none on the paper), and, since odds are they contain
silver, why filter them out? (In fact it's possible you could filter &
nothing would be removed.) Odds are, however, that test strips made when
emulsion was fresh no longer apply -- could be slower & and "curve" a bit
changed...
