DEAR FOLKS,
I have been following this thread with great interest. Chris has a
great overview when she states that there are so many valid views on it. I
hope I understand that Judy's point of view is the rehashing of and, more
dangerously, the imposing of old conventions on both the image and being of
modern women.
At the same time I feel exactly the same heat described by Rod...it is
part of what motivates me to work.
The following is NOT related to any gender. The Japanese use the
symbol of the cherry blossom in so many things to represent the transient
nature of beauty.
    I appreciate the cherry blossom.
I appreciate the mature fruit of the cherry.
I appreciate the aged wine made from cherries.
Each for very different reasons...but all are sweet...in their own way.
Perhaps what Judy is asking for is the acceptance and appreciation of
the body, male or female, for the beauty at each of its stages of life
instead of the obsession with the passive young female nude convention.
Although
I find many beautiful, sensual examples of this convention which I still
appreciate, I would like to see (and photograph) some nudes with a
difference sense of self expressed by the male and female subjects.
This could be a very interesting topic for new work as well as
postings...
                                CHEERS!
