The primary use of sodium bisulfite in Pyrogallol and Pyrocatechin
stock solutions is as a preservative.
Haist (Modern Photographic Processing) suggests that 84g of sodium
bisulfite is the photographic equivalent of 100g of potassium
metabisulfite. For practical purposes there should be little
difference between Potassium Metabisulfite and Sodium Metabisulfite.
In development both sodium bisulfite and potaasium metabisulfite are
converted to sulfite ions.
