Hi Dave --

I just returned from a (too short) three-day photo trip to Paris. Number
one thing you must photo -- Eiffel Tower! you'll have the best vantage
point from across the bridge. (Either the Champs des Mars/Tour Eiffel or the
Trocadero stop on the #6 line -- the Troc stop puts you closer to the
bridge).

Other must-photo sites:

Sacre Coeur -- actually there are lots of great things to see in Montmarte.
. . Get off on the Abesses stop on the #12 -- In fact, the metro stop itself
is photo material -- it's one of the old art deco ones. Very cool. Van
Gogh and other Impresionist artists lived there for a while. Lots of shops
to get stuff to bring home.

Notre Dame -- on Ile de la Cite. There are a bunch of metro lines that go
there. That will also put you in the Latin Quarter, which has lots of cool
looking restaurants. Unfortunately, it is being renovated right now.

Luxembourg Gardens -- Luxembourg stop on the B RER line (it's really the
same as the metro, so don't get confused).

I want to go back in the sprng when there wil be flowers -- I had mostly
gray weather, but I still got good shots.

I highly recommend learning "bare necessity" french -- ordering a glass of
wine, breakfast, to use the Internet. . .etc.

I wish you were near DC -- I'd lend you my travel and language books!

I would recommend as a non-photo thing to do the Musee D'Orsay. I am a fan
of impressionism and I believe it has the largest collection in the world.
Nice museum shop for gifts, too.

Hope this helps! When exactly are you leaving? I could alsways mail you my
books. If you want to see a few of my resulting photos, they are available
off my homepage, url below -- click on SX-70 link at the top.
Patty
