The older style model 500 holders go for $25 used, just buy one! You may have heard that the model 500 holder can't be used with modern film, but it can.(this holder uses the 4x5 film) Its missing the mechanism to keep you from pulling the "darkslide" too far out when you expose, but all you have to do is watch for the mark that indicates the center of the frame. When you see it just starting to be visible outside the holder, stop pulling. If you are exposing under an enalrger, you will have to find some way to feel where to stop, but it should be far easier than trying to do it without the holder.

Another idea since you are using the 669 film (that's the 3x4 inch film, isn't it?) Buy a used polaroid colorpak camera ($5-$10). To use it with an enlarger, you will need to cut off the front part of the camera, leaving only the back part that holds the film.
