Michael;
There are a lot of suppliers of UV lights. Here in Canada, most electrical
supply houses can supply UV tubes and holders from 18 inches to 48 inches.
Most UV fluorescents will fit standard holders - often available used for
next to nothing. If you have any friends or relatives who are electrician
you may be able to get used parts from them.

The tubes will work with standard ballasts - just match the ballast power to
the tube. For example, if you get 40 watt tubes make sure you use a 40 watt
ballast.

I once built a UV light source using tubes from bug zappers. Here in Canada
they are available in most hardware and department stores that sell bug
zappers. They are U shaped tubes which can be driven from standard ballasts
(got them used from an electrician). I just soldered the wires onto the
pins. There are a few different sizes so once you select a supplier (I got
mine from Sears) you are stuck with them.

Subject: UV light sources

Hello

My name is Michael Spedding, I am new to the list and a novice with
alternavative processes. The recent thread on UV bulbs interested me, as I
have been using an old sun lamp as a light source which expired on me last
week in cloud of smoke. I would be obliged if anyone on the list could offer
me any advice on lamp holders and bulbs etc. I live in the UK and was also
wondering if there is anyone else from here on the list who could sugest any
suppliers in the UK.

regards
Michael Spedding
