My guess is it's probably more a workflow issue, about how he's set up
to work and what he's used to working with, than about the film per se.
Prepress guys are used to working with slides, I think, and to work with
something else might interrupt his flow, and since he's giving you a
deal anyway, he might not want to change his stride for your job. My
advice would be to ask him if he would be willing to do it for you for a
little more money.
