Probably not... because one person's uninspired crap is the next person's
work of art. Or as my sainted father used to say (really) -- difference of
opinion is what makes horse races.
But I find Christopher's long argument more complex and "inspired" than
the art he defends.... evoking the line about "you mean I've been talking
prose all my life?" We experience -- and notice -- changes of light and
context every day. They are givens and ordinary. To me, making a big deal
out of that is much ado about nothing, no depths to parse or real effort
to plumb -- exactly the kind of art that DOESN'T require thought. You get
it in an instant, and then feel very profound & superior.
Brilliant art is humbling.
