Try the 3M 'extra low adhesion' painter's masking tape that is white and
comes in a blue cellophane wrapper at your local builder's supply store.
I've not destroyed any paper since switching to the stuff.

Believe me, I went through the same thing. It only happens when you're not
looking. I think that hanging them to dry before they hit the screen and
possibly even blotting them if you're brave enough keeps a lot of migrating
water from dragging unbound metal with it.
I also asked Dick Arentz about this problem a few months ago and he
suggested clearing in phosphoric acid. But the other stuff seemed to work,
so I never bothered.
