USB card and older Mac Performa + Epson 1280 don't work been there done
that. Purchased a G4 powerbook three weeks ago instant success. I also have
the 2450 scanner which interestingly enough works with the Performa....
but with the firewire it is soooo much faster. The processor on the Performa
200mhz was just to slow. Amazing what 500mb of ram and and 550 mhz processor
can do. I thiink in general the differance between 288o dpi and 1440dpi is
very small to the eye.

Hope this helps
