Joe's response is heart felt. I was once 23 and married and we had our
first daughter. The echo in my mind was Eisenhower saying to "Beware the
military-industrial complex". Joe says the world is not romantic but complex
and I understand. My present work is complex and romantic.
A moment ago I was in a lock shop w/our front lock that has never worked.
Long story shorting it he said his company once had a warehouse distributing
to 30 other locksmiths. They bought $2.5 million per from Schlage. Schlage
was bought out by Ingersoll-Rand and then someone else. They became dust in
a field. Then they sent a letter and dropped 200 customers of similar size
saying they will only sell to those buying $3 million or more.
It is about money. That is why I sent the Julius (notably not Augusts)
Caesar statement and he at least admitted he had been wrong. Progressive? My
politics? To give you an instance . . we are now dickering with Africa to
buy/drill oil. We will not aid them in any way but allow petulant
chauvinists to hurt their own people via ignorance and greed. IF our
companies, through law, brought the tenets of environmental concern and
similar wage structure to those African nations, the price differential in
gasoline cost will far outweigh the cost of the future. We dealt with Arabia
that way. check out how much of the oil fields Rockefeller owns and you will
be very surprised.
Honestly, I do not know about the nukes nor do I understand the hate for
what Hussein called Zionism but I hold thoughts about that. I try to be
humane and not political because politics seem to f*** it all up.
Why do I insert these comments . . because, as Joe wrote, he as one of our
youth has lost sight of idealism. If some fecal matter is heading toward
the fan, we will all feel it and it is better to place it before us all in a
rational manner than to employ hindsight as a mediator. All of this affects
greatly my photographic pursuits. I do empathize w/Joe and what Bill said is
right on. It is more important for a disparite group such as us to chat or
insert such information into the context of our technical discussions than
it is to leave it out.
To quote a blues I like by Esmond Edwards . . I wish to give "eyesight to
the blind"
