I replaced an Epson 2200 recently after a year of service due to a
Firewire port problem. (full exchange btw... customer service was
impeccable). It also had a peculiar problem toward the end. When
printing small prints on glossy paper (3.5 in wide), I could detect faint
banding
at 1440dpi (but not at 2880dpi). However, with the same setup
I would see no banding at all when printing on glossy paper at (12.5 in wide).
My thought was that it had something to do with the rapid carriage
return when making small prints. I have no idea. It definitely needed cleaning.

The replacement printer shows none of these symptoms. Then again,
it's clean as a whistle.
