I suspect the business about "nose grease" is an in-joke for newbies, or
possibly it worked for large format, or maybe the guys doing it are
skinless wieners, but if you look at a 35 mm neg "fixed" with nose grease
under a loupe, you'll see it smeared with skin cells, worse than the
scratch.
