Gum viscosity

Amidst all the gum/dichromate percentage broohaha, I have been
brooding over a related, but different issue. Perhaps the amount of
water in the mix is more significant than we are thinking? It
certainly affects the viscosity, and in my extremely limited
experience seems to affect how well the mix "wets" the underlying
substrate, and subsequently how well the dried layer adheres to
the layer below. My best results have been with thin, watery coats
though I understand that thicker, heavier coats hold an honorable
place in the pantheon of gum-thinking.

I suppose I should ask Sam, but do you suppose that he gets such
bright colors by keeping the water content down and thereby
allowing for thicker gum coats, and of course, more pigment in
each coat?
