The silicone plate has a VERY shallow etch. When finished you can barely see the etch but it holds ink quite nicely. The silicone repels the ink that is rolled on. Think inking the plate in 30 seconds instead of wiping 10 minutes. Takes about 90 second exposure to sunlight and a couple of minutes to wash out with an alcohol solution. Then about 5 minutes post wash out exposure to sun to harden the plate and you are done. From then on it is just an intaglio printing process. I have used the photopolymer plates and silicone wins hands down. Look at Rembrandt Graphic Arts www site for a book on the process. >
