To rephrase for clarity: what I'm saying here is that I don't always
agree with everything James says, but if Photographers' Formulary says
that sodium sulfite works as well as sodium bisulfite, I'd be inclined
to give them the benefit of the doubt. But the only way to know for
sure, in the absence of definitive information, is to try it and see
for yourself.
