DEAR LIST,
I bought those old, cheap, plastic Agfa 8X loupes, drilled a hole in the
side, inserted a string, tied a knot, glued it inside the hole and tied the
other end of the string to the back of my view camera. I have one on the
8X10, one on the 5X7, and one on the 4X5. I never lose them and they are
always less than an arm's length away. Easy to find without having to come
out from under the focus cloth. 8X seems fine with my vision...no vertigo
and good DOF determination. Works fine at the edge of the field as well.
        Just my habit and preference...
                                        CHEERS!
                                                BOB

The following looks a lot like the folding linen testers many used in the
past:

It's actually quite compact when it's folded up. And only $3.50 too!

Magnifiers like this are designed to focus the surface on which the
magnifier is placed. When used against your ground glass, the image plane
is on the OTHER side of the glass. Depth of focus will probably be
acceptable but it's something to keep in mind if you find a magnifier
that doesn't seem to work for your purposes.

Hope this helps.
