thanks so much for the info, Darryl! i appreciate your very timely help.

both gum & temperaprint seem promising - probably a lot saner than trying to
reenigne (reverse engineer) the old kwik-print process.

the quality of the images on the site you suggested are stunning. intriguing
stuff.
