This was nothing to do with direct carbon.

For a couple of decades I have been transferring images exposed on Autotype
Carbon tissue to Fabraino Artistico coated with three coats of gelatine (160
Bloom deionised ossein). Suddenly, last year, it stopped working. It works well
on fixed out silver gelatine paper, but I do not like the result.
