I have had pretty good success with ortho-litho films. They are not
designed for continuous tone, but will give you a continuous tone
negative if developed in diluted Dektol. I use 1:10. Since the first
image you get is positive, you must then contact print it on a second
sheet of film to get the negative. I have had good results developing the
second film in Selectol since contrast tends to build up. The Selectol
is diluted 1:1 or 1:2.Ortho-litho film is not sensitive to red light and
slightly faster than enlarging paper. Contrast filters cannot be used
to control contrast. The positive can be used for Bromoil, and the
Negative for Cyanotype, Kallitype, Van Dyke Brown, Platinium, Pladium
and Gum. You can control contrast by adjusting the dilution of the Dektol,
but I have found little effect beyound a dilution of 1:10. Also, you
have to watch out for dust particles.
